| Philippine National Police regional director C/Supt. Ronald Roderos lauded the PNP in Negros Oriental for besting other commands in Region 7 by producing the best city and municipal police stations in 2007.
In a message read by his deputy C/Supt. Federico Terte at the PNP rites Friday, the PRO-7 director cited what he called the sterling leadership of provincial commander, S/Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, in reducing the crime volume by 13.2 percent from 796 in 2006 to 691 in 2007, the biggest reduction so far in the last 10 years.
He said this indicates the each PNP member has effectively performed his duties and functions as protector of the people.
In 2007, the Valencia police station was adjudged as best police station throughout the country, the Dumaguete police station as best city police station in Region 7 and the Pamplona police station as best peace unit in the region, which Roderos considered as unprecedented accomplishments.
Because of this, the Negros Oriental provincial police office was also adjudged as best in the region.
Roderos also said Region 7 ranked no. 1 in the intelligence performance rating evaluation.
Meanwhile, the regional police office is extending financial assistance to the family of the late SPO2 Avito Arabe aside from what the slain officer is expected to receive from the government.
Arabe's family received the cash donation at the Garden of Saints where his remains lie in state.
PNP deputy regional director CSupt. Federico Terte said all angles are being looked into in the death of the policeman.*MA
