Retain Buenafe, Macias insists
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Negros Oriental Gov. Emilio Macias II yesterday reiterated his request for the retention of Philippine National Police provincial director, Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, at the 17 th PNP anniversary celebration held at Agan-An, Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

In his keynote speech, Macias relayed his request to Chief Supt. Federico Terte, regional deputy commander of the PNP in Region 7, and said his letter had not been acted upon.

Macias said that even if all the 250 officers throughout the region are in the list of recommendees, he will still choose Buanafe.

He stressed that he would want to work with a provincial commander with whom he is very well acquainted. Macias was governor at the time when Buenafe was still a lieutenant assigned in Negros Oriental.

Terte said the request of Macias will be elevated to Camp Crame , but reiterated a PNP policy that a provincial commander can stay in one province for only two years.

He said this will give Buenafe a chance to be promoted to general.

“If you want Negros Oriental to be better than what it is today, retain Buenafe,” Macias said.*JG
