Environment groups opposed the proposed construction of a 165 megawatt coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City and scored the government for its “two-faced” energy policy that professed support to sustainable energy solutions while encouraging coal plant investments.
In a joint press conference, Greenpeace and Responsible Ilonggos for Sustainable Energy said they are joining the local communities' in opposing the construction of a coal-fired power plant in Iloilo .
The groups said President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo should be true to her word and assume the mantle of leadership in addressing the challenge of climate change.

The Public Employment Services Office in the cities of Bacolod City and Talisay will hold separate Jobs Fair on Feb. 11 to 13.
Representatives of employers/principals will be at the PESO in Bacolod City for three days starting Feb. 11 to interview applicants for job opportunities in Qatar , U.S. , Brunei , Hongkong , United Arab Emirates , Turks and Caicos Isla, and Malaysia .
Qatari Industrial Equipment WLL in Qatar needs workers for various job openings while Healthcare Professionals Unlimited needs 100 nurses for the U.S. , the press release from PESO said. 


`B' sugar prices recover
Prices of domestic or “B” sugar recovered this week after hovering just above P1,000 per 50-kilo Lkg. level a week ago based on the price monitor record from the Sugar Master Plan Foundation.
Price ranged from P1,012 to P1,051.89 at the Feb. 7 bidding, an improvement from last week's P1,008 to P1,045.55.
PASSI I sold its “B” sugar at P1,051.89 or P6.34 higher than the P1,045.55 last week while Victorias Milling Company, Lopez Sugar Corp. sold its stocks at P1,021.
