| The NOPSSCEA bid in volleyball and basketball got off to a winning start in the Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association Meet in Kalibo, Aklan yesterday.
Roger Banzuela, chairman of the NOPSSCEA Sports Task Force, last night said that the men and women's volleyball teams from the University of St. La Salle posted straight-set victories over Aklan and Capiz, respectively.
The win is crucial as both NOPSSCEA teams kept in step with rival Iloilo in the team standings. Iloilo is defending champion in the men's division, after pulling off a come-from-behind victory over Negros last year.
NOPSSCEA is reigning titlist in the women's division.
The NOPSSCEA men's basketball squad, bannered by West Negros College , also cruised to a one-sided victory over Antique yesterday, coach Dennis Tumayan told the DAILY STAR.
The NOPSSCEA cagers face a daunting task today when they meet undefeated Aklan at 10 a.m. and powerhouse Iloilo at 5:30 a.m.
Iloilo still leads the overall standings with 77 golds, owing to a powerful showing in swimming and athletics in the first two days of the Games in Iloilo City .
NOPSSCEA has 55 golds, after victories in men's football and women's athletics.*CPT
