PICPA Visayas confab set

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants Negros Occidental Chapter will host the 2008 1 st Visayas Geographical Area Conference on the theme “FACES 4 Synergy,” Feb. 22-24, in Bacolod City , a PICPA press release said.

The registration, opening plenary session, technical session and fellowship ballroom dancing competition will be held Feb. 22 at the Garden Royale, Goldenfields Commercial Complex, and the other technical sessions will be at the Business Inn.

FACES stands for Fellowship Activities for Competence, Ethics and Service, the press release said.

Commissioner Juanito Espino Jr. of the Commission on Audit will be the keynote speaker at the opening plenary session.

NSO to use new
forms starting June

The National Statistics Office in Negros Occidental led by Fred Sollesta will have a new set of forms for registering birth, marriage and death certificates beginning June this year, a Philippine Information Agency press release said.

Civil registrars from Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Negros Occidental are undergoing a three-day training that ends today at the Bacolod Pavillion, to discuss the implementation and the proper way of filling-up the forms.

Improvements were made on the forms and additional items were included to make it more meaningful and complete, the press release said.

To accommodate more clients and to make the transaction more convenient, the Bacolod NSO office is getting an additional office space in its present location at the Villasor Building , Burgos-Gatuslao Streets.

Manpower and additional equipment will follow as the number of clients in NSO is getting bigger each year, the NSO said.

In her speech at the opening program, NSO Administrator Carmelita Ericta urged civil registrars to be aware of the changes taking place, and to take the lead in improving the documents to benefit the public, the press release added.*

Marco Sison to perform
at Iloilo City hotel today

Marco Sison, one of the country's greatest balladeers will hold his pre-Valentine concert today and tomorrow at the Aris café at Hotel del Rio, in Iloilo City , a press release from organizers said.

The quintessential vocalist's signature songs – My Love Will See You Through, Make Believe, I'll Face Tomorrow, and that quirky “Si Aida, si Lorna, o si Fe,” continue to be the favorite of many Filipinos.

His close to 24 years of singing has spanned 19 best-selling long play albums, performances in movies, television, and theater, and concerts have seasoned him into a sensitive, enduring performer, the press release said.

He was a soloist of the Philippine College of Commerce's Bagong Himig Choral Group in 1977 when he emerged as singing champion on the noontime TV program, Student Canteen. This title led to a regular stint on the show followed by a recording contract.

Through the years, Marco has top-billed countless solo shows and tandem performances with other leading artists on local shores and abroad. He is a regular topbiller in yearly Valentine dinner concerts in Manila 's fashionable hotels, the press release added.*
