‘PNP, army harass
farmer beneficiaries'

Agrarian reform program beneficiaries of the hacienda previously owned by the heirs of V. Moras in Brgy. Tamisu, Bais City , Negros Oriental expressed alarm over the presence of several policemen in their place, Wednesday.

Angel Tormon of the Negros Farmers Council said Regional Mobile Group troopers arrived in their place while farmers were harvesting sugarcane in the 31-hectare plantation

Tormon said there was no reported violence in the hacienda, and farmers were surprised about the presence of the Philippine National Police, and allegedly by Army men.

NORPPO celebrates PNP Day

The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office will celebrate the 17th PNP Day today, with Gov. Emilio Macias II as guest of honor and speaker at the program set at 10 a.m. at Camp Fernandez, Barangay Agan-an, in Sibulan town.

Provincial director Melvin Ramon Buenafe said citations will be given to representatives of government and non-government organizations, civic clubs, and other groups and individuals who have helped make the NORPPO the best provincial police command in Region 7 this year.

Buenafe also disclosed that a soft opening will be held for the firing range being built inside the camp compound.

PMRB receives complaint

The Provincial Mining Regulatory Board has received a complaint from a minority tribe about activities in a closed mining site located in their ancestral domain in Barangay Cabatuanan, Basay, Negros Oriental, provincial attorney Erwin Vergara said.

Tribal chieftain Rogelio Trono of Tribu Bukidnon Magahat lodged the complaint before the Governor's Office against Vice Mayor Macario Amorgente of Basay and his nephew, Rene, for extracting tons of pyrite in Sitio Cabigtian.

Trono said the loading point in Nagboalao, Basay has no permit and foreshore lease agreement.
