| The Kabankalan City Water District held a public hearing recently on the proposed water rate increase at the Farmers Center , Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, a press release from the city said.
General manager Aquiles Zayco Jr. of KWD introduced the Local Water Utilities Administration rate reviewer that presented the rationale behind the water rate increase, with Rei Bernardo of Local Water Utilities Authority-Manila.
More than 200 consumers attended the public consultation.
The Hilabangan River is a good source of water supply for Kabankalan. Its water passes through three sedimentation plants for clearing and processing. Every week, the water undergoes bacterial tests and sent to LWUA, before being distributed to the households, the press release said.
Meanwhile, the KWD needs a P5 million budget to change the old and rusty pipes. It also proposed a flat rate increase of P180 a month starting March 2008 from the present flat rate of P150 a month, the press release added.*
