Fiscal drops perjury
raps versus Perdices

The City Prosecutor's Office has dismissed the civil suit filed against Dumaguete Mayor Agustin Perdices by columnist Dindo Generoso, in relation to the result of the last local election.

Perdices was charged by Generoso with perjury in his countercharges against the mayor, when the latter allegedly lied under under oath by referring to him as an Australian citizen.

The mayor had charged Generoso for abuse of rights as a columnist of a local weekly newspaper and sought damages from the journalist.

Sanitary landfill gets P38M

Bayawan  City  has  allocated  P38 million   for  the  implementation of  a  sanitary landfill this year, Mayor  German  Saraña Jr. said yesterday.

He said the project will be implemented along with the artificial  wetland which addresses the  waste water  coming  from the  Gawad  Kalinga  Fishermen's  Village.

It will be located at a 21-hectare lot in Barangay Maninihon,  Bayawan, Negros  Oriental, and will be constructed within this year. 

Club launches healthy lifestyle

The Sangguniang Panlungsod has adopted the year-long program of Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club as part of the healthy lifestyle program of the city.

In Resolution No. 456 series of 2006, the council agreed to support the program aimed at promoting mass running and walking among residents, to help stop the rise of lifestyle diseases.

Events coordinator and FU-IYSPeace consultant Paultom Paras said the program is open to volunteers and members of non-government organizations, who wish to extend their resources to help promote sports tourism, healthy lifestyle, environmental preservation and youth services or the T.H.E.Y. goals.
