Sanitary landfill gets P38M
IN BAYAWAN
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Bayawan  City  has  allocated  P38 million   for  the  implementation of  a  sanitary landfill this year, Mayor  German  Saraña Jr. said yesterday.

He said the project will be implemented along with the artificial  wetland which addresses the  waste water  coming  from the  Gawad  Kalinga  Fishermen's  Village.

It will be located at a 21-hectare lot in Barangay Maninihon,  Bayawan, Negros  Oriental, and will be constructed within this year.

Saraña said they envision Bayawan to continuously have the healthiest environment in the province. The  best  program   in  addressing health  issues  is   by promoting  sanitation, he said, adding that with the  increasing population, there  is  also  an  expected  increase  in  the  volume  of   garbage  and  water  pollution.

He also said the  city   will  continue  to develop  the  technology linking  sanitation  and  agriculture  development.

The City  Agriculture  Office is   regularly  conducting    trainings    through farmer  field  schools to promote   organic  farming.*MA
