Fiscal drops perjury
raps versus Perdices
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The City Prosecutor's Office has dismissed the civil suit filed against Dumaguete Mayor Agustin Perdices by columnist Dindo Generoso, in relation to the result of the last local election.

Perdices was charged by Generoso with perjury in his countercharges against the mayor, when the latter allegedly lied under under oath by referring to him as an Australian citizen.

The mayor had charged Generoso for abuse of rights as a columnist of a local weekly newspaper and sought damages from the journalist.

In his article, Generoso said defeated mayoralty candidate Arturo Umbac “was robbed of victory” by the reelected mayor.

Perdices said he filed a case against Generoso to clear his name of the malicious accusation.

He added that in the copy of a contract of services he has obtained, he learned that Generoso is a Filipino citizen, residing in Brgy. Banilad, Dumaguete and employed as consultant of the Provincial Tourism Office with a monthly pay of almost P20,000.

He said an amended complaint was lodged against Generoso. “I am not after the money but I just want to clear my name,” the mayor said.* JG
