Swine production in Negros Occidental grew by 19 percent in 2007, figures of the local office of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics show.
In 2006, the province only had an inventory of 356,000 heads of swine, but the number increased to 410,000 in 2007, both from commercial and backyard source.
Provincial Agricultural Statistician Joely Cabarles said the increase can be attributed to either the expansion or the establishment of new swine businesses.
