The 45 th Southern Ladies Tournament tees off Feb. 6 with about 90 women players seeing action at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Binitin , Murcia .
Tournament organizers Jhay Montelibano and Susan Yulo yesterday said that the Philippine teamare participating in the tourney with Chihiro Ikeda leading team.
Ikeda, fresh from her stirring come-from-behind victory in the DHL-WWW Express National Amateur Golf Championships is favored to win the contest.
The tournament, Montelibano and Yulo said, is under the auspices of the National Golf Association of the Philippines .
The Philippine Team is composed of Bacoleña Anya Tanpinco, Sarah Ababa, Ikeda, Lucy Manalo, Gretchen Villavicencio, Mariel Candinate, Carmelite Villaroman and Lora Reyes.
Former national players, Lucy Landicho and Lina de Guzman will also join the tournament. Crystal Shin, the reigning champion, said she is confident that she will fare well in this tournament, despite the slew of big-name challengers in the fold.
The tournament will be ushered in by the ceremonial tee off to be done by former Binitin caddie and now Asian Tour star Juvic Pagunsan.
The ladies tournament will run from Feb. 6-8, while the seniors event will be held from Feb. 7-8.
BGCC members will be pairing up with the female players today in an 18-hole tournament.
The tee off ceremonies will also mark the inauguration of the recently renovated clubhouse of the BGCC at 3 p.m. today.
The awarding ceremonies will be held on February 8 at a venue to be announced later.*
