Bacolod hotel has new manager

Belinda Berbenzana is the new manager of Syliva Manor, the first boutique hotel located at San Juan streets, in Bacolod City , a press release from the management said.

The hotel, managed by Ocana Holdings Inc., has 52 rooms with suites for business travelers, family vacationers and celebrators.

Its other staff heads are Joey Yapjoco, Sheila Alunan-Chua, JB Ongsingco, Nestor Serrano, Rosario Sismo-an, Kaisa Ginete, Gecel Christine Garcia, Rhodalyn Divinagracia, and Ma. Cecilia Duatin, the press release said.

Boy needs assistance

The mother of an 8-year-old boy from 12 th Street , Brgy. 6, Bacolod City , is seeking help for her son who has been confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital , for bronchial asthma.

Rosalie Asuncion, mother of Angelo, 8, said her son was brought to CLMMRH for difficulty in breathing on January 30. He has been suffering from asthma since birth, and his last attack was in December last year, medical records disclosed.

Records revealed that Angelo has an onset of non-productive cough with no associated symptoms. At the day of admission, the boy was admitted in conscious, coherent, ambulatory in cardiopulmonary distress, records added.

Arrival of St. Therese relics set

Preparations are underway for the second visit of the pilgrim relics of St. Therese of the Child Jesus on March 4-7, in Bacolod City .

The relics, venerated by Catholics around the world, will arrive at the Bacolod port at 2:30 p.m., March 4.

From the pier, the relics will be carried in a caravan to the San Sebastian Cathedral for the welcome rites with Bishop Vicente Navarra.

It will stay at the Carmelite Monastery until March 6, when it leaves for Kabankalan City in the morning and will be back at 5 p.m. the same day. It will leave for Malacañang, the next stop of the pilgrimage of the relics, on March 7, the press release said.

Masses and veneration schedules will be announced later.

Sergie Tan is the liaison officer of the organizing group for the visit.

As part of the preparations, catechesis classes on the life and teachings of the Carmelite nun, who is one of the 33 doctors of the church, have been launched.

Classes for the leaders from parishes and chaplaincies of the Bacolod vicariates are held at the Diocesan Lay Formation Center at San Antonio Abad parish church, Bacolod .

Classes continue on Feb.6, 13, 20 and 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 nn, according to Teresa Causing of the Lovers of St. Therese group.

The same classes will also be held at the Agape House of the Carmelite Monastery in Mandalagan for representatives of schools, government offices, business organizations. They are scheduled on Feb 8, 15, 22, 29, from 2 to 5 p.m., the press release said.

St. Therese is known for her “Doctrine of the Little Way of Spiritual Childhood” which has been acclaimed by theologians as the sure and simple way to salvation.

Her writings attracted readers outside the convent, and was eventually published as a book entitled “The Story of a Soul.” Mainly on the strength of this book, she was declared a saint 23 years after she died, a record for its brevity between death and canonization, the press release added.*

Diocese holds historic walk

The 303 rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army based in Barangay Minoyan , Murcia will join today's Jubilee Pilgrimage Walk from different assembly points in Bacolod City to the Paglaum Complex initiated by the Diocese of Bacolod.

Major Nathaniel Villasor of the Brigade's Civil Military Operations said the army will join the group from the East Vicariate composed of the Mambucal, Murcia , Paglaum Village , Mansilingan, Handumanan, and Bakyas parishes.

The group will assemble at 6:30 a.m. at the junction of Doña Juliana and City Heights and will start walking towards Paglaum Complex simultaneously with other participants from the different assembly areas.

Villasor said the army's participation in the walk is a show of support and active involvement in church-led activities, particularly, in the Jubilee celebration.

Also joining the activity is 303 rd commanding officer Col. Honorato De Los Reyes who will walk from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon to the Paglaum Complex with Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra and participants from the Central Vicariate composed of San Sebastian , Banago, Queen of Peace, Bata, Fatima, Sto. Niño, Sta. Clara and Cameroli.

The group from Bacolod North Vicariate composed of parishes from Villamonte, PHHC, Helvitia, Capitol Heights, Camingawan, Alangilan, Granada, Villa Angela, among others will assemble at Villamonte Cirlce while those from the south – San Antonio Abad, Aiport, Henrietta, Tangub, Sum-ag, Bago – will start walking from the Sacred Heart Seminary to Paglaum Complex.

Earlier, Vicar General Msgr. Victorino Rivas said the walk will also be known as “Alay Lakad for Caritas-Bacolod” with contribution of P10 from the participants to be donated to Caritas, a diocesan office that will take charge of relief distribution to victims of disaster.

Caritas-Bacolod will be launched after the walk and Ilonggo celebrities from Manila are invited to join in the event, Rivas said.

He added that in the afternoon, the Jubilee secretariat had organized a Mardi Gras celebration at the Bacolod City Public Plaza with the participation of festival performers from different cities in Negros Occidental.

The event, Rivas said, is an introduction to the 40 days of prayer, penance, and alms-giving charities for the Season of Lent which officially tomorrow, Ash Wednesday.*NAB
