Mining requirements to
be strictly imposed

The Provincial Mining and Regulatory Board in Negros Oriental will monitor closely companies that have applied for permits, provincial legal counsel Erwin Vergara said yesterday.

A report of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau revealed that at least five big mining companies have applied for mining permits in the mountains of Zamboanguita, Siaton, Bayawan and Basay, Negros Oriental.

Vergara said the mining exploration is to search for minerals like silver, copper, zinc and gold. The MGB-7 has  already  collected  P1.6 million  from  the  application  fees  of  the  five  mining firms, he added.

Siaton man killed in mishap

A man was hit and killed allegedly by a speeding automobile driven by a medical representative Thursday afternoon in Sitio Looc, Brgy. Giligaon, Siaton, Negros Oriental.

The victim was identified as Hermie Belarmino, 37, single, jobless, of said place, and the driver as Annie Luz Fuliga, 26, single, of Davao City , an employee of the United Laboratories Inc.

Police investigations disclosed that the accident happened about 12:30 p.m. when the Toyota Sedan from Bayawan City en route to Dumaguete City , was coasting along the national highway.

Police nab 5 for illegal drugs

Five persons were nabbed by the police for possessing drug paraphernalia while on board a motor vehicle at 8 a.m. Thursday, in Barangay Poblacion 1, Bais City , Negros Oriental.

The suspects were identified as Nico Cabrera, 29, single, Tito Cabrera, 32, married, Rico Senador, 24, married, Jestoni Academia, 19, single, and Randy Acab, 22, single, all of Brgy. Tambulan, Tayasan town.

Police said they were arrested by a team of Bais PNP led by PO3 Restituto Abanto, at a checkpoint in the national highway of Brgy. Poblacion 1, Bais.
