Mentally retarded
woman raped, killed
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The body of another rape-slay victim was found yesterday, this time in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, for which the police tagged a member of the “Rugby Boys” as a prime suspect

Emma Marie Mondia, 36, was the second rape-slay victim in Negros Occidental this month. Lilibeth Nucos, 8, was also victimized in Ilog and her molestation and killing remains a mystery to the town police until now.

Senior Inspector Sunny Boy Bernus, Hinigaran police chief, yesterday said Mondia, who was mentally-retarded, succumbed to seven stab wounds.

Police said the body of Mondia was found about 7 a.m. yesterday in an abandoned shanty at Burgos Street in Brgy. 4, Hinigaran. She was without her underwear.

Bernus said one of the two witnesses who is a minor and also a member of the “Rugby Boys” Gang, identified the suspect as a certain JR Mahinay, 19, a resident of the barangay.

Police probers are now getting testimonies of two witnesses for the filing of rape-slay charges against Mahinay who is still at-large.

The police Women's and Children Protection Center recorded five rape-slay incidents in Negros Occidental since June last year, of which one was considered solved, with the filing of charges against the two suspects who are now detained at the Talisay City Police Station Jail.

The city police stations of Victorias and Bago, as well as in Ilog, meanwhile, have not make any breakthrough in identifying the suspects in the rape-slay of Teresa Medrano, 7; Imelda Manapo, 42, and Nucos, 8.*GPB
