| The nationwide manhunt for fugitive Marine Capt. Nicanor Faeldon has reached Negros Occidental.
Operatives of law enforcement agencies have been mobilized to verify reports that Faeldon, who has a P1 million reward for his capture, had been sighted at the Cassandra Beach Resort in Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director, yesterday admitted having received such raw information, and it is now being validated. He said they are doing that with whatever information they have received.
Faeldon, who is facing coup d'etat charges, joined Senator Antonio Trillanes and party in occupying the Manila Peninsula after their walkout from a hearing of their case at the Makati Regional Trial Court November 28 last year. He escaped during the siege.
Army intelligence operatives interviewed by the DAILY STAR, however, denied reports that Faeldon was sighted in Negros Occidental, and called the information plain “tsismis (gossip)”.
A ranking Army intelligence officer who requested anonymity, said Faeldon has not been monitored in the whole Visayas area.
This may be part of their disinformation campaign to mislead those tracking his whereabouts, the officer added.
“I am giving you a 100 percent assurance that no one among the police in Negros Occidental will join him,” Franco said.
Trillanes and 35, including Capt. Gary Alejano, a Sipalaynon, are facing rebellion charges, in connection with the Manila Peninsula occupation.
Senator Gregorio Honasan, also a fugitive in previous years, had also been reported to have sought refuge with his close friends in northern Negros.*GPB
