Bacolod cops train to
safeguard tourists The series of seminars aimed at training Bacolod police officers for assisting tourists in the city started yesterday, Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said.
The sessions, which are part of the city government's plans to attract more domestic and foreign travelers, will focus on improving the skills of law enforcers, particularly, in handling complaints from tourists, Quebrar added.
At least three representatives from the 10 BCPO stations attended the first part in the seminar series yesterday.
The officers will man the tourist assistance desks in each precinct, Quebrar said.
Last month, the police vowed to improve security measures, especially for Korean students in Bacolod .
Meanwhile, Quebrar said they expect to finish the new BCPO building in six months.
Construction of the foundation of the P12.5 million-structure started last month and its completion will depend on the release of the budget from the Philippine National Police regional office in Iloilo City , he said.
Quebrar said the old building will be used as barracks for BCPO personnel and offices for its special units and task groups.
Quebrar also said they are heightening their campaign against motorcycles without plates and proper documents as another measure to deter the incidents of robberies in Bacolod .
BCPO stations have been conducting nightly checkpoints to flag down persons driving motorcycles without plates and the necessary papers because these are commonly used by robbers as get-away vehicles, Quebrar said.*PP
