| The National Food Authority in Negros Oriental launched Thursday a rice conservation program through an intensive education campaign throughout the province.
The program is aimed at improving awareness in the community of the need to conserve rice, the NFA Negros Oriental said. It will visit high schools in the barangays to campaign, it added.
NFA provincial manager Gil Ibarra said young students in the barangays are usually the ones oriented in cooking rice.
His office will also give out posters, flyers, stickers and information sheets about the program in places frequented by the public, Ibarra said.
He added that NFA authorized retailers outlets will also be provided with campaign materials for customers.
The NFA is also asking restaurant owners to post the rice conservation posters to make the end-consumers aware of the importance of rice conservation.
The information materials include tips on how to buy a good quality rice and ways on how to wash without wasting some of the rice seeds.* MA
