City PNP conducts
random drug testing
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Several police officers in Dumaguete City underwent random drug testing recently, City Police chief, Supt. Dionardo Carlos, said.

Carlos said a surprise random drug test was undertaken last week on selected police personnel, as part of the continuing program of the Philippine National Police to eliminate scalawags and misfits.

The results will be announced later, he said.

Carlos said he earlier received reports about policemen moonlighting in identified drug lairs in Dumaguete. He said this came as a surprise because there is no directive from him or from the provincial command for these policemen to frequent the area in Barangay Looc, an identified drugs den.

To avoid a whitewash, Carlos elevated the investigation to the provincial command.

Meanwhile, after recognizing the feat of the Philippine National Police, Carlos said, “We have to double it this year”.

Carlos also disclosed plans to fully develop the facilities of the PNP, including the concreting of the compound, landscaping of its facade, repainting the main building, among others.

“We want our clients to come in not because they are victims or complainants but because they are part of the community and for them to feel they are at home,” Carlos said.

He said he is also “eyeing” the establishment of a cooperative for the police so they not be borrowing money from loan sharks.*JG
