Perdices scores violation
of cityhood requirements
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Dumaguete Mayor Agustin Perdices reiterated that the League of Cities is not against the creation of additional cities, but is opposing moves to reduce the income requirement for cityhood under House Bill 24.

The Department of Budget and Management has said that for every city created, P2 million is taken from existing cities.

Perdices said exempting local government units from the P100 million income requirement will be giving a bad precedence.

Macias delivers first SOPA
BY RENE GENOVE

Gov. Emilio Macias II yesterday made his State of the Province Address and enumerated the projects his administration had undertaken during his last six months in office.

Macias said he has implemented a two eight-hour work shift in the provincial government, and crafted together with the public sector the Provincial Executive-Legislative Agenda that serves as guide for development efforts.

The governor also noted in his SOPA that by re-routing the flow of traffic, parking of any type of vehicles is prohibited along Kagawasan Avenue and the nearby Freedom Park where the Capitol is located.

‘Communist insurgency
in Negros dying'
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Col. Romeo Basco, 61 st Infantry Battalion commander, said yesterday that the communist insurgency in Negros is dying a natural death and has just become a livelihood for its members.

He made the claim after the clash between government forces and rebels Monday, that resulted in the death of a New People's Army squad leader.

Basco said that so long as the rebel movement is pestering the population in the hinterlands, asking for revolutionary taxes, and supporting an armed struggle, the military will always conduct offensives.
