| An Iranian student charged with rape before the Regional Trial Court in Baguio was arrested yesterday at Silliman University , Dumaguete City .
Two policemen from Baguio served the warrant of arrest to Molaei Gholamreza, a civil engineering student at SU. He had been charged before RTC Branch 59 in Baguio .
Judge Iluminada Cabato recommended bail of P400,000 for the suspect, who will also stand trial for assault and slight physical injuries.
The policemen presented the warrant of arrest to University president Dr. Ben Malayang III, who, in turn, convened a group of university officials, including two of its lawyers.
Also present, during the service of the warrant was Negros Oriental PNP provincial director, Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe.
In a press statement, the school said, “It is clear to the university that the arrested Iranian student had allegedly committed the crime at the time when he was not enrolled at Silliman.”
Silliman saw to it that it carried out its extended parental responsibility over its student, while satisfying the mandate of law, the police said.*JG
