| The Negros Occidental provincial government is putting stress this year on skills training to boost the livelihood opportunities of Negrenses, Acting Gov. Isidro Zayco said yesterday.
“We had an initial meeting with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority people who will coordinate their training activities with the local government units,” he said.
He said TESDA will provide the manpower and the LGUs will provide the facilities for the training.
This will target the out of school youth, and those who cannot afford to go to college, he also said.
The training will cover welding, masonry, carpentry, plumbing that are in demand abroad, he said. If they want to go into business locally after their training the LGUs can also assist them with capital, Zayco added.
Participants will be charged P500 for the course they enroll in, so there is a semblance of payment, he said.
Some of those who have graduated from such training have been provided placement opportunities for jobs abroad, he said.*CPG
