Cop faces mauling complaint
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Another policeman is in hot water for allegedly mauling a bus inspector of the Vallacar Transit Inc. yesterday in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Rosel Opciar reported to the police that he was mauled by SPO1 Remus Bayawa, a member of the Calatrava Police Station, and his companion, Jonathan Nepumoceno, at the bus terminal in San Carlos City.

Initial police investigations showed that the incident was triggered by altercations between Opciar, an inspector of Ceres Liner passenger buses, and Bayawa who is the president of an association of L-300 van vehicles plying the San Carlos-Bacolod routes, on Monday, over the picking up of passengers.

Supt. Harold Tuzon, San Carlos police chief, said Opciar further claimed that he was also threatened by Bayawa, hours after after the mauling incident.

The incident came two weeks after PO1 Alberto Estacion, a member of the Don Salvador Benedicto Police Station, was also accused of maltreating the 2-year-old son of a Maranao trader in La Castellana early this month.

Tuzon said Opciar is determined to press charges of physical injuries against Bayawa and Nepumoceno who were nowhere to be found, when the police arrived at the scene.

Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director, yesterday ordered Tuzon to investigate the incident.

Opciar also alleged to Aksyon Radyo that Bayawa challenged a “dispatcher” of Ceres Liner he identified as Alfredo Salazar at the San Carlos bus terminal in previous month, over the picking up of passengers.

He added that Bayawa was in civilian clothes and was carrying a .45 caliber pistol when the mauling incident took place.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is also investigating PO1 Jade Gimay for indiscriminate firing in La Castellana, while PO1 Brenold Jarina, was recommended for dismissal from the police service by Franco after he tested positive for drug use.

Jarina had been arrested at the Silay airport for possession of traces of shabu.*GPB
