Lin-ay bets putting
edge to good use
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Not content with doing catwalks and wearing glittery clothes, four contestants for this year’s Lin-ay sang Negros pageant have their own plans for putting their physical appeal and intellectual edge to good use.

Jade Marie Penado of Talisay City said that, aside from joining beauty contests, she finds it fulfilling to help those who have less in life.

The 19-year-old second year Nursing student at the University of St. La Salle said she hopes to use her education to help her extended family and reach out to other people.

Cadiz City’s Cleo Soledad, on the other hand, said that she hopes to be able to carry the name of the province with pride if she brings home the Lin-ay crown.

Soledad, 16, said campaigning for waste-segregation as president of her high school’s student government was one of the things she is proud of in her role as a leader.

While earning her Nursing degree at USLS, Sagay City’s Analou Ogan, spends some of her time as a member of the Youth for Christ and Youth Extreme, groups that campaign for a deeper appreciation of the Catholic faith, among the young.

Born to a Catholic family, Ogan, 18, who also hopes to become a flight attendant, has been a member of the YFC since she was in high school.

For Victorias City’s Mona Gail D’Angelo, a campaign for a stricter implementation of traffic rules, especially on people who drive while intoxicated with liquor, is among the things she wants to work for if she wins the Lin-ay sang Negros title.

D’Angelo, who lost a younger brother in a vehicular accident in the United States, where the driver of the vehicle who collided with their car was found to be drunk, said that she is willing to do a media campaign to help push her point.*PP
