‘How can I give him up?’

Dear Tita,

I am a 24-year-old career woman, working as a sales executive of a company here in Bacolod. My boyfriend, who is 21, is also working for the same company. He is very jealous and controlling as he says he is insecure because I am earning more than he and our bosses are planning to promote me to supervisor level. My BF can’t handle my success in my career and he treats me so badly. I have to keep on proving how much I love him. We are always fighting and he shouts at and curses me often, which is very hurting. I have even agreed to live in with him for the past three months just to please him but he doesn’t appreciate all my efforts. My family is mad at me for doing this but I defied them because of my love. They are against him because they know he is not earning a lot and I am the one spending for all our needs. When our bosses found out about our relationship and the way he treats me, they tried to convince me to give up my BF as, according to them, he will only be a hindrance to my career. Despite this, I still love him so much and can’t break off.

Things got so tense between us that he told me he was going home to his hometown for a few days. But after a while he called and told me it was over between us. I was shocked. I never thought it would come to this. I felt my heart break into a hundred pieces. I can’t accept that it is over and I want to see him and try to convince him to come back. My friends tell me to give him up as he is dragging me down. Please advise me what to do.
