Negros athletes arrive
from Palaro campaign

BY NIDA BUENAFE

Negros Occidental athletes who saw action in the 2008 Palarong Pambansa in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, arrived last night at the Bacolod port in the Reclamation Area aboard a fastcraft from Iloilo City.

The athletes, among them, secondary girls discus throw record breaker Maika De Oro, looked tired from the long sea travel from Palawan. They were met at the port by their parents and relatives.

The Negros delegates form the core of players who represented the region in the national games after winning the overall team championship in the regional Palaro in Antique in March.

Donning the colors of Western Visayas in the national games, the Negrenses powered the region to an overall first runner-up finish behind the powerhouse National Capital Region.

The WV delegation successfully defended its title in secondary girls and elementary boys and girls’ athletics and earned the secondary boys’ football and elementary and secondary girls’ softball crowns.

Region six also bagged the girls’ tennis championship in both divisions.*NAB
