2nd Kabulakan Festival slated

The 2nd Kabulakan Festival of Dumaguete City will highlight the container gardening competition during May 16 opening salvo at the City Tourism Office Grounds at Quezon Park, Dumaguete.

Among the activities of the festival that will be held May 16-25 are the garden show, landscaping competition, flower arrangement, bonsai making demonstration and the 2nd Kabulakan Festival street dancing and showdown.

City tourism officer Jessica Layumas said the container gardening competition is open to all enthusiasts both amateur and professional.

Participants can either use container gardens in ceramic or terracotta pots, cast iron, stone urns, tubs, wooden boxes, baskets or plastic containers.

It will also encourage people to try gardening as a hobby and promote conservation of the environment. Aside from flowering plants the container gardening can also be of vegetables, herbs, fruits like strawberries and tomatoes.

First place winner will receive P3,000, second - P2,000 and P1,000 for third.

Meanwhile, six barangays have confirmed their participation in the streetdance and showdown on May 24 at the City Quadrangle. These are Pulantubig-Everlasting, Looc-Ylangylang, Buñao-Rosal, Taclobo-Cadena de Amor, Daro- Sunflower and Poblacion 8-Gumamela.

Each participating barangays will receive P90,000 seed money and P 1,500 for food allowance on the festival day.*MA
