Cabanag hits
unresponsive barangays

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Chief of police of Dumaguete City, Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag, said he found out during his monitoring recently that some barangays who were issued VHF handheld radios do not respond to alarm calls.

Cabanag said he will call the attention of officials of the barangays concerned, and see if they are capable of using the equipment. He clarified, however, that majority of the 11 barangays that received the gadgest were quick to respond to emergency calls.

He added that the Dumaguete Philippine National Police will conduct a seminar with barangay officials on the proper use of handheld radios.

Recipients of the two radio sets each are barangays Camanjac, Cantil-e, Candau-ay, Batinguel, Cadawinonan, Talay, Bajumpandan, Poblacion 7, Piapi, Daro, and Balugo.

Meanwhile, Cabanag said incidents of snatching and hold-up in the city have decreased because of the police round-the-clock patrol especially in secluded barangays.

He added that mobility and police visibility are two of the most important factors in maintaining peace and order in a growing city like Dumaguete.

The 21 policemen with the rank of PO1 are assigned in the field to maintain peace and security.*MA
