Edward Gasambelo won over Andres Leonardia for director of Central Negros Electric Cooperative in District IV in Bacolod City in the elections held Saturday.
Gasambelo, an electrical engineer, who was backed by Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella and CENECO president Roberto Montelibano, in his bid, garnered 2,811 against Leonardia’s 2,458 votes.
He will represent District IV or Bacolod East, covering Brgys. Villamonte, Montevista, Alangilan, Granada, Estefania, Vista Alegre, Mansilingan and Abkasa. 


Officials affirm
organic farming pledge
Officials of Negros Occidental and Oriental Negros affirmed their pledge to make Negros the “organic bowl of Asia” as they jointly opened the 3rd Negros Island Organic Farming Festival at the Panaad Park and Stadium yesterday.
Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco confirmed the participation of the province in the 16th International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements World Congress in June in Modena, Italy.
During the event, the province will also bid for the hosting of the IFOAM Congress in 2011. 


TFM hoping to get CLOAs for
Arroyo properties in May
Farmers of Task Force Mapalad in Isabela, Negros Occidental, said in a press statement they are hopeful that certificates of land ownership award will be issued to the Arroyo-owned property in Hacienda Bacan in May.
The group said this after a recent agreement between the Department of Agrarian Reform and the Land Bank of the Philippines to proceed with the valuation of the property.
The farmers are very hopeful because the valuation would pave the way for the generation and issuance of CLOAs, TFM president Jose Rodito Angeles said in the statement.
