| Thousands of Negrenses are expected to flock to the Panaad Stadium at Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, this afternoon to watch tribes from 23 towns and cities compete for the top three awards in the Festival Dance Competition, which kicks off this year’s week-long Panaad sa Negros Festival.
The 23 participating tribes will showcase the best of the festivals in their areas starting 2 p.m. The awarding of the festival dance top awards of P50,000 for the first price, P30,000 for second and P30,000 for third will be at 7 p.m. followed by a fireworks display.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco are schedule to speak at the 3:30 p.m. opening program that will briefly interrupt the dance competition.
Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, Bacolod police chief, said security and traffic measures are all in place for the festival.
The Bacolod police is being augmented by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.
At 7:30 p.m. the Little Lin-ay sang Negros contest will be held with ABS-CBN stars and a concert sponsored by Convergys, also at the Stadium.
At 8 a.m. today a Panaad Thanksgiving Mass will be held followed at 9 a.m. by the ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the Panaad Trade Fair, Negros Products Display, Negosyo-to-Go Market Matching, Negros Island Organic Agriculture Festival Display, Livestock and Dairy Products Fair, and Festival Costumes Exhibit.
A mobile passporting activity will also be held.
Among the highlights on Sunday will be a National Dog Agility Competition at 3 p.m. at the Panaad Stadium, an Earth Day Celebration at the Park Stage and the Lin-ay Sang Negros Festival Costume Parade and Talent Night at Robinson’s Place Bacolod.*CPG
