| Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri is signing a Memorandum of Agreement with the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital officials this morning for the allocation of P1 million for the use of indigent patients.
Zubiri, who has roots in Kabankalan City, said the funds will be available to Negrenses in need of help.
Zubiri was joining the Himamaylan fiesta last night and will be at the Panaad sa Negros Festival at 3 p.m. today, and in La Carlota in the evening.
He said he is continuing to push for the production of biofuels amid the rising prices of oil in the world market. By 2009 gasoline in the Philippines could cost P70 a liter and P100 by 2011 so we must be ready with an alternative by then, he said.
Concern raised over production of biofuels encroaching into food producing areas of the country is unfounded, he said. Idle government lands and non food producing areas will be used to produce crops for biofuels, he said.
He said the president continues to push for the biofuels program of the country, but talks about wanting it held in abeyance because it could hamper food security could scare off investors.
It appears that a noisy minority is responsible for raising the fears on biofuels production, he said.
Asked who they are, Zubiri answered: Who will lose billions of pesos with the proliferation of locally grown alternative indigenous fuel?*CPG
