| Prices of “B” or domestic sugar hit more than P1,250 per Lkg in some mill districts in Negros this week, the price monitor of the Sugar Master Plan Foundation shows.
Although prices in other mill districts have dropped from last week’s levels, the P1,250.50 per Lkg posted by Victorias Milling Company, Lopez Sugar Corp. and Sagay Central Inc. is the highest so far in recent months.
On April 17, prices ranged between P1,182.52 and P1,236.01 while on April 10, between P1,140.45 and P1,195 per Lkg.
Prices at the end of January were only from P1,008 to P1,045.55, but its levels continued to climb steadily in the next three months until it reached P1,200 the previous week.
The campaign of the Sugar Monitoring and Anti-Smuggling Task Force has helped pushed prices of domestic sugar up, according to Sugar Regulatory Administration chief Rafael Coscolluela.
The SMAS Task Force has seized more than 40,000 bags of smuggled sugar in various ports around the country since January, amounting to P63 million.
Mill districts whose prices dropped at the April 24 bidding are: Binalbagan-Isabela Sugar Company, down to P1,180.50 (low) and P1,175 (high), from P1,182.52 (high) and P1,176 (low); Hawaiian-Philippine Company, to P1,214.88 (high) and P1,212.05 (low) from P1,220.89 (high) and P1,205.91 (low);
SONEDCO, to P1,181.28 (high) and P1,180.28 (low) from P1,193; Passi I, to P1,223.07 from P1,236.01; Passi II, to P1,205 from P1,226.10; and Capiz, to P1,215.88 from P1,226.01.
In other mill districts, prices climbed for VMC, Lopez and Sagay, P1,250.50; and Bais, P1,207.28 (high) and P1,200.28 (low).
Bukidnon Sugar Milling Corp. sold its stocks at P1,185 and Central Azucarera de Don Pedro at P1,240 (high) and P1,160.
