| The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a unanimous resolution Wednesday declaring an imminent danger of calamity in Bacolod City to enable the city to use its 15 percent calamity fund for its flood control program.
The resolution was requested by Mayor Evelio Leonardia and based on the joint memorandum circular of the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of Budget and Management.
Councilor Roberto Rojas, chairman of the Flood Control Coordinating Action Team, said he wrote the mayor on April 15 requesting for P10 million for the various expenses in the implementation of the flood control program of the city.
The fund will be spent on payment for the rental of the dredger, fuel, and repair of drainage facilities in Bacolod, among others, he said.
Rojas said the city will also put up a drainage bypass from Sta. Clara Subdivision going to the floodway in Purok Riverside in Brgy. Banago, Bacolod City to address the flooding problem in the area. The project, which is estimated to cost P2 million, may be started next month, he said.
The dredging operations conducted by the city in the Mandalagan River is about 20 to 25 percent complete, Rojas said, while the city has already completed the dredging of the Banago Creek.
They are also conducting clearing operations in the different canals and culvert pipes in the city to ease flooding during rainy season, he said.
Meanwhile, the SP passed another resolution congratulating Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson on his election as the external vice president of the Vice Mayor’s League of the Philippines.
The resolution was proposed by Councilor Catalino Alisbo.*CGS
