Worker faces raps for
rape of 72-year-old

BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

A farm worker is now facing rape charges for allegedly sexually molesting a septuagenarian in Bacolod City Sunday, the police said yesterday.

Renzy de la Peña, 22, was arrested by Police Station 5 members Monday after he was positively identified by a 75-year-old woman to be the man who assaulted her near a creek at Hacienda Luyguy, Brgy. Granada, Bacolod, at about 2 p.m. Sunday, Inspector Renato Ofamen, Police Station 5 commander, said.

The Bacolod City Police Office Women’s and Children’s Concerns Desk confirmed that rape charges were lodged against De la Peña, at the City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.

The woman told Police Station 5 investigators that she was walking on a path between a sugarcane field and a creek on her way home from the house of her child when De la Peña, who, she said, smelled of liquor, came along and greeted her.

She said De la Peña suddenly grabbed and dragged her towards the creek and molested her.

Ofamen said that although De la Peña has repeatedly denied assaulting the woman, it is the court that will decide on it.

The suspect was singled out by the victim in a line-up of all the male farm workers after the incident, Ofamen added.*PP
