Earth Day activities set
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Members of the Catholic laity under the San Sebastian Parish in Bacolod are starting initiatives in support of the global campaign to restore the environment and for the Earth Day celebrations today.

The group called Soldiers of Ecology aims to help in the movement to counter global warming through clean-up drives and recycling programs, Erlinda Uy, a member of the Social Concerns committee of the parish, said.

As part of the Earth Day celebrations today, they will hold a clean-up of the areas in the vicinity of the San Sebastian Cathedral, including barangays 1 to 14, Uy said.

Around 100 “soldiers” composed of area leaders and lay association members will join the initiative at about 8 a.m. today, she said.

They will also hold a mass at noon today during which seedlings will be offered for their tree planting activity, Uy added.

She said they hope their campaign will inspire more to join them.*PP
