secondary javelin

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – The two-year wait for a Palarong Pambansa the gold ended here for Sharmaine Joy Bucaling of Western Visayas.

The 18-year-old Bucaling, a silver medalist in Naga in 2006 and bronze winner in Koronadal last year, finally struck gold early Monday when she ruled the secondary girls’ javelin throw at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex.

Bucaling of Dingle town, Iloilo flung the spear to a distance of 33.95-meters to beat the host Mimaropa’s Richelda Pepito (32.09m) and Bicol’s Jancell Candelaria (31.86m).

Tan wins in tennis tour

Bacolod City’s Tao Yee Tan vanquished her opponents from Kalibo, Aklan in the finals to rule the girls’ 16-under and 18-under of the 5th leg of Head 2008 Junior Tennis Tour held Sunday in Lapaz Tennis Courts, Iloilo City.

Playing one of her best games in the tournament, Tan blanked Aklan’s Stephanie Villanueva in the first set of the finals in 16-under and allowed her only two points in the second set to take home the championship.

In 18-under, ShaSha Pastrana tried to reverse the outcome and avenge Villanueva’s loss but Tan will simply not permit it as she continued to play like a champion and capture her second title in the Iloilo edition of the tennis tour.
