‘Crisis committee sole
authority on port issue’

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Philippine National Police reiterated yesterday it will only take orders from the Dumaguete City Crisis Committee, after insinuations and reports reached Camp Crame in Quezon City, saying that the police is not doing its job in addressing violent activities at the city port.

In his meeting with Mayor Agustin Perdices yesterday, PNP regional director Chief Supt. Ronald Roderos assured the mayor that ground commanders of the PNP will not just accept orders from anybody else in keeping the peace at the port area.

Roderos added that the mayor represents the people of Dumaguete, and that, they will receive orders only from the crisis committee, which Perdices heads, until the issue is resolved.

He also confirmed that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will arrive in Dumaguete on board the presidential yatch BRP Ang Pangulo this week and it will dock at the port of Dumaguete.

This is why the people can expect a resolution of the issue before the President sets foot in the city, he added.*JG
