| The Dumaguete City council has created a multi-sectoral group to formulate policies and plans to prevent and control the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
The Dumaguete City Multi-Sectoral STI/HIV Council for the Prevention and Control of Sexually Transmitted Diseases was created by a city ordinance, authored by Councilor Noel de Jesus.
The council is also directed to identify and prioritize related activities, De Jesus said.
It is also tasked to regularly evaluate ongoing prevention measures and come up with related activities in the prevention and control of HIV/STI/STD in the city and nearby communities.
The ordinance also states that the council will be chaired by the city mayor and co-chaired by the city health officer.
The members are from the committess on health and family of the city council, City Social Welfare and Development Office, Interior and Local Government, Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education, and two representatives from accredited non-governmental organizations to be chosen by the mayor.
The ordinance also set aside P300,000 for the operation of the council.*RA
