Orientation on new SALN held

The Department of Agrarian Reform, with the Civil Service Commission, recently conducted an orientation on the new Statement of Assets Liabilities and Net Worth for Department of Agrarian Reform personnel in Negros Occidental, a DAR press release said. 

PARO II Teresita Depeñoso said the new SALN is mandated under Republic Act 6713.

Nestor Campoy, Supervising Personnel Specialist from the CSC, the guest speaker, discussed the new SALN, or the revised format to represent baseline data of assets liabilities and net worth of government employees. 

Campoy lectured on how to fill up the new revised SALN, what to declare, and sanctions for failure to declare and submit, the press release said. 

The sanctions will be based on R.A. 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Government Officials and Employees, and in case of unexplained wealth, on R.A. 1379. 

Depeñoso, with CARPO Evelyn Colimbo, CARPO Lucia Seraspe, and DAR personnel of Negros Occidental gave Campoy a certificate of appreciation after the orientation, the press release added.*

Former ‘RPA-ABB member’
apprehended for loose gun

A suspected former member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade was arrested for illegal possession of firearms by the Talisay City, Negros Occidental police, recently, the Talisay PNP said in a press release.

Ronald Costamares, 26, single of Hda. Caridad, Brgy E. Lopez, Silay was apprehended by a team led by PO3 Ramon Lachica and tanods of Brgy. Zone-3, Talisay headed by Rodrigo Salcedo.

Recovered from him was an improvised shotgun or “sulpak” with ammunition for a 12-gauge shotgun, the press release said.

Costamares is now detained at the Talisay City Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the press release added.*

Storytelling sessions held

Employee-volunteers of Smart Communications Inc. are holding storytelling sessions during weekends, for the children-beneficiaries of the PLDT-SMART Amazing Gawad Kalinga Village in Sooc, Arevalo District, Iloilo City, a press release from SMART said.

A first in GK Sooc Village, storytelling was first introduced in the PLDT-SMART Amazing GK Village in Budlaan, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City in April last year.

Filipino stories are read to the children during each session. Some sessions include arts and crafts activities with children, such as drawing and puppet making. About 30 children-beneficiaries, aged 4 to 11 years old, attend each session held at the GK daycare center in the GK village.

The PLDT-SMART Amazing GK Sooc Village is one of the seven GK villages adopted by SMART, PLDT and the PLDT-SMART Foundation.

Located in Barangay Sooc in Arevalo district of Iloilo, it is now home to families of streetchildren of Iloilo City. Aside from funding the construction of 100 houses per village, the company also assists the beneficiaries through livelihood programs such as the terracotta art project for children-residents of GK Sooc, the press release added.*
