| The Golden Jubilarians of the Bacolod City High School headed by Class '58 president Ruperto Toga, will hold a Fellowship and Award Ceremonies on April 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Palmas del Mar Resort, Bacolod City, as part of the 59th Alumni General Homecoming set April 19-20, a press release from the class said.
The general homecoming will be on the theme “Making Success Significant."
Balikbayan-alumni from the United States, Canada, Australia and other parts of the Philippines will attend the awarding night, the press release said.
Awardees are Ethelinda de Oca Geolingo, a nurse based in Rancho Cucamonga, California; Jorge Fuentes who used to work with the aircraft industry in the US, now based in Yorba Linda, California; and Delia Jara Pineda who works as caregiver in California.
Ricardo Yap, president of the BCHS-BCNHS Alumni Association will give an inspirational message.
Among the awardees to be honored are high school salutatorian Kendel Tang (now based in Canada) for academic excellence; Jorge Fuentes - for electrical engineering and humanitarian services; Ethelinda de Oca-Geolingo - nursing services and leadership; Dr. Beata Nessia-Gamboa - doctorate in Optometry; Rodolfo Escandelor, Bacolod City - mechanical engineering and development banking; Kashmir Torres-Saison - music and entertainment; and Ruperto Toga, Bacolod City, - journalism and press freedom, the press release said.
Awardees in Business Management are Cresencia Insular-Gonzales, Lucia Lim Ong, and Elenita Diamante Jayona; Public Service -- Rodolfo Aspan, Delia Jara-Pineda, Antonio Ballados, and Ben Adalim Cadagat; Education -- Herminia Espejo-Vilbar, Lourdes Carpen-Treveles, LiliaAlgarme-Patricio, Lucia Hervias-Majaque, Bacolod City, Eduvejes Bautista, Leticia Tolopia, and Eduardo Cabalhin, Bago City.
Actively taking part in the homecoming are members ofAlumni Class '58 on their 50th class reunion (Golden Jubilee), Class '68 (Ruby celebrants) and Class '83 (Silver Hosts), the press release added.*

Remote control
toys exhibit slated
The RC MANIA 2008, with The Negros Aeromodelers Club and Bacolod City Off-road Racing Club, will organize a Remote Control Toys outdoor exhibition on April 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the North 3A Carpark of SM City Bacolod, a press release from organizers said.
An RC Mania exhibit featuring model boats, aircrafts and cars will also be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the mall’s Northwing Event Centre.
Yepe Infante and Paolo Rojas, presidents of Negros Aeromodelers Club and Bacolod Off-road Raceway Club, respectively, said the activities will showcase remote control toys, or “toys for the big boys”, the press release said.
The exhibition will also be a venue for families, especially fathers and sons, to bond and share fun this summer. Individuals interested to join RC’s new generation club could also seek assistance from the organizers, the press release said.
Bacolod City hosted the 3rd National RC Competition last year at the old Bacolod Airport, the press release added.*

Earth Day activities
lined up at city mall
Earth Day 2008 will be celebrated with several activities lined up at SM City Bacolod, a press release from convenors said.
A 20-kilometer bicycle tour dubbed “I-Bike” 2008 will be held April 20, at 6 a.m. from the North Transport Terminal of the mall. This nationwide activity will be spearheaded by the Solar Generation Visayas and the Earth Day 2008 Bacolod and Negros Occidental convenors, the press release said.
Also set is the Earth Day Exhibit that will open at 4 p.m. at the Northwing Event Centre and will feature various efforts of convenors in promoting Earth-friendly practices. The ribbon-cutting will be led by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, followed by a tribute by the 15th IB Molave Warriors Band, the press release said.
The Earth Day Recycling Market will be held April 22-26, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Transport Terminal to support the city-wide cleanup of the different barangays in Bacolod. People can trade their traditional and non-traditional waste items into cash at SM, the press release said.
Highlighting the month-long observance will be the Earth Day Jam on April 22, from 4 p.m. onwards at the mall’s South 3 Carpark.
Convenors, guests and visitors will be treated to a premier entertainment to be provided by SM, Animo Puppet Theater Inc., Clay Events, Grupo Babayi Artists and Bacolod City Gender and Development Council, the press release added.*

YMCA summer camp held
The YMCA of Negros Occidental Inc., with the Department of Education in Silay City and the local government held the Hi-Y Boys and Girls Summer Camp ’08 on the theme, “Negros Occidental Hi-Yers: Prime Movers of Eco-Tourism Initiatives,” recently, a press release from organizers said.
The camp was hosted by the Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School Hi-Y Peer Counselors and participated in by delegates from Sum-ag National High School, Luisa Medel National High School and Handumanan National High School.
DMLMHS principal Wilfredo Hermosura gave the welcome remarks at the opening program, followed by a dance troupe presentation and sessions, the press release said.
Other events are spiritual nourishment activity, eco-tourism lectures, poster-slogan making and essay writing contests and lessons and demonstration on first aid and safety measures.
