Ambulance kills woman
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

A septuagenarian died after she was hit by an ambulance of Murcia, Negros Occidental, at the Libertad Extension in Bacolod City Monday.

Purificacion Pineda, 74, died at the Corazon Locsin  Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital after being bumped by the ambulance of Murcia town, Negros Occidental, driven by Rene de la Cruz, at about 4 a.m. Monday, PO2 Docelio Pachoro of the  Bacolod Traffic Management Unit, said yesterday.

Pachoro said De la Cruz was bringing a patient to the CLMMRH when the incident happened.

Pachoro said in a television interview that the driver tried to slow down to avoid Pineda but she may have panicked and proceeded to cross the street.

Pachoro said De la Cruz surrendered to Police Station 6 after the incident but he was later released, because Pineda’s relatives said they just want help for her burial expenses and for the family she left.

The Murcia government has also expressed willingness to assist Pineda’s family, Pachoro said.*PP
