| A Jewel at 92!
A friend to all and an enemy to none, NegOr’s living civic and social legend Josefa Teves Vda. De Escaño, lovingly called Inday Pita, was feted by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in a thanksgiving on the occasion of her natal day.
In the 16th century Balboa went all over the New World looking for the fountain of youth, alas to no avail. Well, well the fountain of youth is right here in Dumaguete in the personage of Inday Pita. At 92, she is the epitome of a youthful matron both physically and mentally. Inday Pita is still bubbly and can carry dance steps like she did on the night of her debut, which is inscribed in the pages of NegOr’s mythical social history. When asked what her secret to long life is, Inday Pita always modestly answers her complete faith and submission to the will of God. Her love for all is her best elixir.
A vast majority of NegOr’s political, business and social bigwigs came to greet her on the night of St. Joseph’s feast. Hosted by her daughter provincial mega asset Mariant Villegas, son big businessman Alex E., in-laws Mita Deen and Meo Villegas, the thanksgiving dinner consisted of a humongous salad bar with every imaginable condiment, Pasta in White Sauce, Beef Goulash garnished by Mashed Potatoes, Baked Lapu-Lapu Fish with fresh vegetables, the traditional Lechon and for desert, an array of pastries and cakes.
Seen making the rounds were the provincial political kingpins, Gov. Dodo Macias, Rep. George and Nanette Arnaiz, Dumaguete Mayor Tuting Perdices, Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling, Bais Mayor Tata Villanueva, the grand ole man of Oriental politics Meniong Teves, and Honorable Chiquiting and Maissa Sagarbarria. From Cebu came piano diva Ingrid Sala-Santamaria and Boy Veloso of the Escaño clan; flying in from Manila were Thirdy and Cathy Escaño, Oding and Danny Daez and other great grandchildren. Social register spotted were Inday Pita’s cousins Doling Teves, best dressed Mediong Teves, Rica Long, long time friends Margie Gonzalez, Mars and Baby Kho, Tony and Karen Uy-Pitching, Ed Du, Stella and George Romero, Babes and Leo Cabrera, banker Miguel Diaz Jr., Monching Teves, Happy Lee, Puri Pareja Maloles, Julianing and Flory Teves with sons and daughters-in-law, Chiqui and Pororoy Larena, Marilen Victoriano and dozens more namedroppables.
To the jewel of Negros Oriental Inday Pita, the Lord will bless you with many more years. Your ways are an inspiration to all. Happy Birthday to the sweetest lady on earth, Tita Pita……NOUS!*
