UNO-R cagers triumph

Rendel Bernales scored 21 while Kim Sada made 19 as Sagay Central/University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos turned back University of St. La Salle, 76-69, in Game 3 of their best-of-three championship series to capture the title in the Mayor Bing Small Basketeers 12 and 14 under basketball tournament held recently at the Negros Occidental Multip-Purpose Activity Center.

Bernales, tournament’s Most Valuable Player in the 14-under and member of the mythical five, led his team to victory after a frustrating 76-64, Game 2 loss to USLS which tied the series at 1-1.

Kyle Gay delivered 14 points for USLS in Game 3 but it was not enough to secure the crown for his team.

Also included in the mythical five selection were USLS’ Eman Sevilla, James Golez and Gerard Castor.

In the battle for third place, St. Benilde prevailed over La Consolacion College.

For the 12-under category, IECC Computers beat St. John’s Institute (Blue) to win the championship title with Raymund Cuadra taking home the MVP award.

Davies Paint was second runner-up while Barangay Cabug settled for third runner-up.

Other members of the 12-under mythical five were SJI’s Joshua Co and Kenneth de Leon and IECC’s Kib Montalbo and Mark Tabat.*
