Missing boy’s
body found

BY APTRICK PANGILINAN

The body of the boy who drowned with his older sister in a river at the boundary of Cadiz and Sagay cities in Negros Occidental, was found by his relatives yesterday, the Cadiz Rescue Emergency Assistance Team, said.

Ryan Tiguihanon, 14, was found by his uncles near the area where the body of his sister, Jean Rose, 17, had earlier been retrieved by divers in the Himuga-on River, at about 2 a.m. yesterday, CREAT member, Jonathan Galicia, said.

The CREAT had said Ryan and Jean Rose had been picking seashells known as “kayob” when they were sucked by strong undercurrents into gorges in the river believed by residents to be “mariit (the place of evil spirits)”.

A television report said the teenagers’ parents had tried to dissuade them from going into the eight-meter deep river from their home in Hacienda Estrella, Brgy. Tiglawigan, Cadiz.

Witnesses said that Jean Rose, who had just graduated from high school, had tried to help Ryan, an incoming third year student, who got stuck in the deeper part of the river and could not save themselves because they did not know how to swim.

Their remains are now at the Negrense Funeral Parlor in Cadiz, Galicia said.*PP
