| The group called United Negrenses Yearning for the Truth is drafting an appeal to the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines to review its pastoral letter that it said just stopped short of calling for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Fr. Anecito Buenafe, director of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod, said yesterday.
The appeal is being made in the light of the Supreme Court order allowing former National Economic Development Authority chief Romulo Neri to invoke executive privilege at a Senate hearing on the national broadband network deal, he said.
The CBCP, in its Feb. 26, 2008 pastoral letter “Seeking the Truth, Restoring Integrity”, had called on Arroyo to abolish Executive Order 464 so that those who might have knowledge of any corruption in branches of government, may be free to testify before the appropriate investigating bodies.
However, Buenafe said that, with the SC ruling, UNYT wants to ask the CBCP if its call for the truth has been answered.*CPG
