The Visayan DAILY STAR is marking its 26th anniversary today, and as we have done everytime this day comes around all those years, we give thanks to the Good Lord who has blessed and guided us all the way, and all our readers and supporters who have kept faith and sustained us through all the vicissitudes of our existence.
Those years had all been full of challenges as well as excitements, but they had also brought countless problems that seemed insurmountable, making us wonder if it would be worth plodding on. But the inspiration and encouragement we received from our beloved readers, our advertisers, our distributors, our stockholders and countless friends, kept us going.
We recall what a landmark we thought we had achieved when we arrived at our FIRST anniversary, and how we twitted those doubting officials who had snidely predicted that we would not last six months. The FIFTH anniversary was like a miracle, not even those of us who had started it could believe we had gotten that far. But, by the grace of God, and the impassioned prayers of everyone of us, we went on the TENTH, the 20th, and, last year, our Shining Silver One, the 25th!
On this day, therefore, we express our gratitude to all those who have helped to keep the DAILY STAR continue with its avowed mission of serving the community, as well our editorial and printing staff who have faithfully kept the STAR shining with their idealism, dedication and concern.
We also thank those agencies who have acknowledged us with various awards and citations which have served to inspire us and prod us to strive for constant improvement in order to meet the highest standards of journalism, not only in this country but all throughout the world.
On this anniversary, therefore, we renew our pledge to continue working and serving our people in the DAILY STAR way.*
