PICE technical gab set

Noted speakers from all over the country will discuss various topics at the Region VI Technical Conference of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Inc. on April 18-19 at Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City, a PICE press release said.

The speakers are PICE national president and keynote speaker Willy Go, Dr. Ernesto De Castro, Dr. Benito Pacheco, Dr. Primitivo Cal, Dr. Danilo Terante, Ronaldo Ison, Efren Sison, and Noel Ortigas.

Gov. Isidro Zayco and Mayor Evelio Leonardia will be guests at the affair.

The event on the theme “PICE: Advocating Innovation, Ingenuity and Dynamism of Professional Practice,” is aimed at increasing the competence and prestige of the civil engineering profession, it also said.

Textmates wed by city mayor

Mayor Evelio Leonardia officiated at the wedding of two “textmates” yesterday at the Bacolod City Hall, a press release from the Office of the Mayor said.

Angel Pajigar, 37, of Caloocan, Metro Manila is a painting supervisor at the New Government Center of Bacolod, and Dina Robles, 19, is a student from Brgy. Concepcion, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

For four months, the couple exchanged text messages that led to their getting married yesterday, the press release added.*

TOSP regional finalists named

Eight students from Bacolod schools, 10 from Iloilo, and two from Capiz are the 20 finalists in this year’s search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines for Western Visayas, a press release from the 2008 Regional Executive Committee headed by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said.

A team of 15 professionals in various fields screened the applicants based on academics and awards, leadership for international, regional and local levels, and social responsibility, the press release said.

The finalists are Ayr Altavas and Joey Balatayo – Filamer Christian College; Alvin Andrade – Iloilo Doctors College; Jahleel-An Burao, Janus Dellava and Victor Marco Emmanuel Ferriols – University of the Philippines in the Visayas; Johnny Esmilla Jr. – University of San Agustin; Darnel Forro and John Marvin Malones – Central Philippine University; Angelica Gallespen, Manuel Jeffrey Sistoso and Maribeth Perla – Riverside College; Amy Grace Gargar and Nea Cecille Quiachon – University of St. La Salle; Cindy Gasataya – Fellowship Baptist College; Michael John Herrera – University of Iloilo; Marlon Jinon – West Visayas State University; Jestine Nichole Julom – West Negros University; Aprille Oponda – University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos; and Paul Brian Sopeña – John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, the press release also said.

They will be publicly introduced at a conference at the Negros Press Club in Bacolod City on April 14, the press release added.*

Bridal fair ongoing  at mall

The Clay Summer Blossom Bridal Fair will run until April 13, at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Bacolod, a press release from organizers said.

The one-stop wedding planning site at the mall features elegant and personalized wedding gifts and bridal accessories, special church and reception decorations, catering, and cakes and pastries, the press release said.

Also featured are gown style, size, color, design, photographs and videos.

Also at the bridal fair are the gowns by two of Bacolod’s top couturiers John John Ditching and Kelly Cuachon, and a wedding cake exhibit.

Meanwhile, the mall also features acoustic performances and the grand finale bridal fashion show with live pictorial featuring the Bacolod Association of Models on Sunday at the mall’s Northwing Atrium, the press release added.*
