| The Dumaguete government is preserving its “Child Friendly City” tag in Central Visayas through programs aimed at addressing the concerns and uplifting the plight of children. City Social Welfare Officer Marina Mendoza said yesterday.
Mendoza said that one of the programs for children this year is the annual summer camp participated in by 300 indigent children aged 9-12 years old, held at the Dumaguete City High School.
The activity is aimed at giving these children from various barangays the opportunity to experience a real camp-out the scouting way, complete with trails, bonfire, map reading, knot-tying and other indoor and outdoor skills, she added.
Children are also given lectures on the importance of knowing their rights, importance of proper waste management and disposal to address global warming, and proper hygiene, among others, Mendoza said.*JG
