UNO-R tandem
stays in contention

BY CEDELF TUPAS

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos tandem of Jenny Torres and Julie Anne Billote bounced back from its Day 1 loss with twin victories yesterday that kept its hopes alive in the 12th Nestea Beach Volleyball Visayas at the University of St. La Salle sandcourt in Bacolod City.

The UNO-R tandem tamed FU (21-18, 21-11) and foiled USLS' attempt to recover from its frustrating loss against University of Visayas earlier with a 21-3, 21-8 triumph.

Still with an unblemished record after three games, defending champions, Janez Armie Igot and Jusabelle Brillo of UV will face University of Southern Philippines Foundation today, while UNO-R battles Southwestern University.

In the men's department, USLS' Marlon Luces and Mark Sabusap recovered from an early loss against USJ-R and stayed on track for a berth in the national finals by walloping St. Gabriel College (21-15, 21-15) and Colegio Dela Purisima Conception (21-14, 23-25, 15-10) yesterday.

Still, Jade Becaldo and Jose Marie Etcobañez of UV remained as the  team to beat as the duo overcame Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod (21-13, 23-21) and University of Iloilo (21-19, 20-22, 15-8) to stay unbeaten.

Also posting wins in the men's division in Day 2 were CPC against IDC (21-11, 21-4); FU against USA (18-21, 21-16, 15-8); and USPF against USJ-R (21-13, 21-19).*NAB
