PARO thanks Navarra
for support to CARP

Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Teresita Depeñoso recently met with Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra at the Bishop’s House in Bacolod City to thank him for his support for the extension of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program that will expire in June this year, a press release from her office said.

The bishop made the declaration at the Diocesan Rural Congress that tackled the “Dignity of the Rural Poor” conducted in Bacolod City on March 25.

Depeñoso, in behalf of the Department of Agrarian, explained to Navarra the various bills seeking the extension of CARP, including the one which seeks a 10-year extension, six years of which is for the completion of Land Tenure Improvements and the remaining four, for the delivery of Support Services for farm productivity.

She said that, in Negros Occidental, DAR still needs to distribute about 150,000 hectares.

Depeñoso said the bishop informed them that the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines is preparing a joint manifesto  declaring their full support to the CARP extension and that he is one of the signatories, the press release added.*
